Pasikatan ng Graduates
UP: A number of past Philippine presidents graduated from UP. Presidents Roxas, Quirino, Laurel, Garcia and Marcos, to name just a few!
ATENEO: Hah! That's nothing, a number of Ateneo graduates became national heroes like Jose Rizal, Gen. Gregorio del Pilar, Gen. Antonio Luna, Evelio Javier and many others.

UP: That just goes to show you, UP graduates become presidents and lead countries while Ateneans end up getting shot!

LA SALLE: Wala 'yan. Talo kayo sa mga gradweyt namin!

UP & ATENEO: Bakit sino ba ang mga graduates ninyo?

LA SALLE: Aba! Marami kaming sikat na gradweyts; si Gary Valenciano, Dingdong Avanzado, Ogie Alcasid, Monsour del Rosario, Rico Yan.

- panalo! XDD

Love is in the Air.

Monday, February 14, 2011 0

One of the most anticipated, at the same time, most dreaded days of the Gregorian Calendar has come. It's that time of the year when love is more palpable than ever. Whether your love be Agape, Platonic, Eros, Philos, or Storge, this is the day when you expect to love and be loved the most.

This day could either be the best or worst of your February. Who knows... You might get a proposal-- wedding proposal, would-you-be-my-girlfriend/boyfriend proposal, would-you-go-out-on-a-date-with-me proposal, or God-knows-what kind of proposal. On a sadder and absolutely heartbreaking note, you might also get dumped. Like any other day, anything can happen on February 14.

LOVAPALOOZA. More than anybody else, February 14 is for the so-called lovers (honeys, sweethearts, darlings, whatever cheesy endearment exist in this well-endowed planet.) On this special day, they catch grenades, throw their hands on a blade, jump in front of a train, or... die for each other. Well, most likely, they're just having dinner, exchanging luxurious Valentine Gifts, or perhaps, experiencing the not-so-elusive version of heaven together.

JUST AN ORDINARY DAY. While lovers cuddle and married couples recollect their past in a romantic candlelit dinner, I'm here alone in bed just wallowing over whatever's worth wallowing. My sister's busy with her job; the rest of the family's 560 miles away. There's definitely no romantic dinner nor the usual family Valentine Dinner. But, it's totally fine with me; I already had my pre-Valentine treat. Despite being alone, I could still feel that LOVE is in the air. Even from a distance, I could see the omnipresent hearts floating like little bubbles.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S!

Is Death the Sweetest Escape?

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 0

Death can never and will never be sweet. It always has a dark connotation. It's always sad... depressing, even if you think of it as finally getting reunited with the Almighty Father.
Faith tells us that there's life after death and not just life per se, but life that is eternal and blissful. But... who knows? Who knows what really comes after death? Maybe death is just a black hole that would suck us, and spaghettify us, and rip us off atom by atom until we're microscopic, until we're gone... just gone. Maybe death is a black hole where neither time nor space exists-- a world of oblivion.

Angelo Reyes, one of the rumored major players in the recently disclosed military corruption, ended his life with a bang-- not the usual vivacious kind of bang (that we hear on Christmas and New Year's Day) but the fatal kind of bang that could end one's life in just a jiffy. He shot himself on the chest. On the chest? Does it symbolize heartache--unbearable, excruciating heartache?

Big things always come to us. Sometimes, these big things are not the ones we want to welcome in our lives. Unluckily for Mr. Angelo, the most unexpected and definitely the most unwanted big thing came. I sort of pictured him being really complacent, thinking that all was well... that he had escaped the shackles of whatever corruption he had done. (I don't accuse him of anything. "Innocent until proven guilty." Did I quote that right?)

The controversy he's into is big, really BIG. It might have caused him to lose his ground, or shake his head really hard, or whack his senses (or whip his hair back and forth). Certainly, it was a blow. A blow that knocked him out so bad. A blow that made him run so far until he reached an end where there's this little room, so dark and falling apart.

We all have our 'dark room' moments. Sometimes, we feel like it's all black-- the world has betrayed us, everyone has turned their backs on us. Our vision gets really hazy. We're all alone, our thoughts clouded. We see no means of escape until we find the tiniest hole we could ever see. We see the hole as the only escape, and that hole is suicide... death. But... Is it really an escape?

Angelo Reyes shot himself in front of his mom's tomb. Probably a sweet and moving gesture if we think of it as a son offering his achievements to his mom but in Angelo's case, I guess we could never think of it that way especially 'cause there's blood involved. Still, it's a gesture of a son who loved his mom deeply most likely thinking: "My mom gave me my life. And this right here, in front of her, is where I'll end it." (Well, that might sound terrible esp. when you do it in front of your mom who's still alive.)

The snafu we're already experiencing became more confusing and enigmatic with Angelo Reyes' death. Did he do it just for himself or did he do it to cover the tracks of someone more powerful? Did he do it because the shame and scrutiny was already unbearable? Or was he really guilty (beyond reasonable doubt)? Did he really kill himself or was he killed?

As expected, Angelo Reyes' death left us with more questions. May his soul REST IN PEACE(Though, if he's really going to be at peace is highly doubtful).

HOW NOT TO FEEL SLEEPY IN BORING MEETINGS

Sunday, February 6, 2011 0
This may not yet be helpful...but I know that in the near future this would come in handy; hence, I'll be keeping it here for a more accessible reference.

------------------------------

Do you keep falling asleep in meetings and seminars? What about
those long and boring conference calls? Here's a way to change all
of that.
1. Before (or during) the next meeting, seminar, or conference
call, prepare yourself by drawing a square. I find that 5" x 5" is a
good size. Divide the card into columns-five across and five down.
That will give you 25 one-inch blocks.
2. Write one of the following words/phrases in each block:
Synergy, strategic fit, core competencies, best practice, bottom
line, revisit, expeditious, to tell you the truth (or "the truth is),
24/7, out of the loop, benchmark, value-added, proactive, win-
win, think outside the box, fast track, result-driven, knowledge
base, at the end of the day, touch base, mindset, client focus(ed),
paradigm, game plan, leverage.
3. Now check off the appropriate block when you hear one of
those words/phrases.
4. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally
stand up and shout "BULLSHIT!"

JUANA CHANGE?

Friday, February 4, 2011 0

This is a video from 'Juana Change' that (sort of) caught the public's attention.

I must admit that I share the same sentiments with Juana Change and her crew. I am really disappointed with P-Noy, his elitist ways, his unwise and absolutely not 'MAKAMASA' decisions--MRT/LRT and PUJ fare hikes plus Budget cuts on SUCs plus planned privatization of MRT-- what more does he want to take away from the public? He really has not yet done anything quite remarkable to please every Juan dela Cruz. Instead, he's giving students, moreover, activists serious headaches and worse, fiery clamors that are left unanswered/ignored or probably just smirked at. Clearly, his inner beast is gradually being unleashed. He's not the bright, sunshiny person we thought he was. He's not a Harbinger of hope and change which most of us attached to his name. He's dark and twisty. Yet another voracious politician is on the loose.

Quotable quotes from the video(taken from Spot.PH):
"Ke thirdhand, ke secondhandfirsthand nating binigay sa kanya ang posisyon niya bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas. Aba ang sabi niya, bayan muna bago ang sarili." ("Whether it's thirdhand or secondhand, we gave him his position as President of the Philippines firsthand. He said, 'Country first before oneself.'")

"Ang boss niya ay nagugutom. Naghihikahos. Naghihirap. Wala akong ilusyon na maghirap din siya. Ngunit inaasahan natin na siya ay makikiramay sa kanyang mga boss sa pamamaraang angkop–ang mamuhay ng simple at maging sensitibo sa kalagayan ng taumbayan." ("His bosses are starving, struggling and getting poorer. I am not saying that he should be struggling too. But at the very least, we expect him to empathize with his bosses in a way that is appropriate–by living simply and being sensitive to the plight of his people.")

-This one is my favorite:
"Uy kayo naman! Intindihin niyo naman. Nakaka-stress nga naman 'yong wala ka pang nagagawa sa dami ng kailangan gawin, hindi ba?" ("Come on, you should understand. It's so stressful having done nothing when there is much to do.")

We all Juana Change. Unfortunately, THE change we've been looking for is not yet within our reach. The so-called "Daang Matuwid" presented with the most deceiving packaging during the elections is as crooked as a scoundrel's brain. Five more years is ahead of us. Let's just hope that things will get better.

Lord_Voldemort7--WHO IS HE?

Twitter, like other social networking sites, is a place to get connected... with family, relatives, friends, friends of friends, strangers-- or anyone within the scope of the "six degress of separation," which is technically every human being in this planet. Although, that might be a bit overrated.

FANDOM. A social networking site is not complete without fandom.
To be added on the abovementioned list, with flashes of glitz and glamour, are THE CELEBRITIES. Just one click on the follow button and they'll keep you posted anytime, anywhere.
Moreover...
IMAGINATION + FANDOM = Our most loved/loathed fictional characters from books/movies brought to life.
Where else? Where else can you find He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named a.k.a. The Dark Lord a.k.a You-Know-Who a.k.a Lord Voldemort tweeting about spurts of random thoughts that cross his mind? Well... I guess, only on Twitter.

Lord_Voldemort7--WHO IS HE?
Every Harry Potter fan who's on Twitter (I believe so) is aware of his dark presence. And everyone (I think) adores him, a BIG exception (of course) are the so-called Twi-Hards-- is that what they're called? I really don't know.
Right now, everyone's mystified on who's behind Lord_Voldemort7's identity. A lot of Tumblr witches and wizards, myself included, speculated and even percolated that Lord_Voldemort7 is no less than.... J.K. ROWLING herself. (OMG! if he is indeed JK Rowling, I'd be... I'd be... "Oh crap! I can't find the right word!").
So, without further ado....
I am very much flattered to introduce.....

He never fails to make my day.
Here are some of his tweets:
#ifyouonlyknew how mean he really is... http://twitpic.com/3w00ce

His anti-Twilight tweets:
Wrong. So very wrong. You'll never look at glitter the same way again....

#donttextanddrive. Or look things up while driving. Especially if this is what you're looking up....(I'm having trouble dealing with the fact that  Edward Cullen is a  fictional character)

"You can't judge a book by it's cover." What? Yes, you can. Isn't that the point? Judge it, and if it says 'Twilight' judge the reader too.

People need to stop talking about "Edward Cullen" & start referring to him by his proper name: sparkly Cedric.

#realmen don't sparkle.

His tweets involving celebrities:
Rihanna needs to stop trying to be me. "Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it." I've been perfect at being bad for years.

Whoever @Lord_Voldemort7 is, I salute him for his wit and remarkable tweets bordering from HILARIOUS to funny to greenish to Sarcastic to whatever. He's definitely a must-follow on Twitter.

P.S. I really love his snide comments about twilight. (ha-ha).

Depressed and Mentally-tortured

Monday, January 31, 2011 2
Dear blog,
No words can describe what i'm feeling right now. Our ruthless ES11 instructors skillfully engineered one of the most excruciating mental tortures ever. My brain was used beyond its tolerance. I am devastated. I am in pain.

The exam was like a deluminator that sucked all my light. Not even a single speck of spark is left in me. The deluminator devoured everything. I am as dark as the night.

How To Make Your Windows Look Like Mac OS X

Saturday, January 29, 2011 0
I never really wanted a Macbook per se. First, because I could actually get the same or possibly even better laptop features with other laptop brands for a cheaper price. Second, because Apple creates its own seemingly secluded world, hence, limiting the range of programs I could use. But... truth be told. I've always coveted the sleek, chic look of Mac's desktop. Aside from the really neat and well-organized desktop, you can have the highly convenient and stylish dock for all your favorite programs/apps.
After a little research. I stumbled upon an article on ehow.com which taught me "How To Make My Windows Look Like Mac OS X" with the clearest and most concise instructions.

I downloaded the software RK Launcher from this link. RK Laucher will serve as the Apple-like dock for your windows. Actually, just a few tweaks and voila... you'd be surprised on how it will become a facsimile of the apple dock.

First, I moved my taskbar to the left since that's where I want it to be, and also, to give space for my dock which I decided to put at the bottom(you can move the taskbar and the dock anywhere you want). I right-clicked on the taskbar and checked 'Automatically Hide.' Then, I ran the program(RK Launcher) and dragged the icons from my desktop to the dock (Though you can't drag everything since other icons would go beyond your screen. Just drag your favorites/frequently used programs or up to whatever fits on your screen.) Then, I right-clicked on my desktop, clicked the 'view' tab and unchecked 'show desktop icons' to free my desktop from all the rubbish.
At first, the dock would look like this:
(A random photo I just grabbed somewhere on the web. Don't mind everything else on the photo, just look at the dock.)

To refurbish the dock, I downloaded skins/themes, icons, and docklets from deviantart.com. (The site has really cool ones, just choose what suits your taste).
For the final Mac touches, I downloaded Mac wallpapers from apple.com. Although not really part of the Mac desktop, I downloaded Yahoo! Widgets to give my desktop more life and style.
And this is the result:
(One of my favorite RK Launcher features is the magnification; it is so Mac!
You can change the themes, icons, and fonts under settings. Settings will appear by right-clicking on the separator.)
(This is the docklet's function. It gives the dock more of that Mac swag and angst. You can have it as 'Grid'-above or 'Fan'-below)
So now... Mac your PC like it's never been Mac-ed before!

MAXIMO PELIGRO AND THE BOMB

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 1
After last year’s hostage-taking drama that caught worldwide attention, Philippines is once again in the limelight.
When I arrived home yesterday afternoon, I went over my usual routine—doing some personal stuff that need not be mentioned and logging in to my social networking accounts. I got pretty surprised when I checked my Twitter timeline. It was flooded with tweets from @inquirerdotnet, @ABSCBNnews. @ANCalerts, and other news organizations and personnel. Something really big made it to the headlines.

Terror alert in Philippines after bus bomb kills 4

Full story here
-----------------------------------------------------
Updates about the terrifying incident appeared on my timeline one after another.
Here are some news tidbits that I got first-hand from Twitter. (Segue: one particular thing I like about Twitter is getting updated about the latest buzz about all facets of life—politics, current events, show business, etc.).

DZIQ: Bus blast toll now at 5 dead (http://goo.gl/fb/UP1RN)

Two men planted bomb in Newman Goldliner bus—police(http://goo.gl/fb/RyloM)

MILF denies any part in EDSA bus bombing, calls it satanic(http://goo.gl/fb/Bps2w)

DZIQ: Bus blast victim’s final call (http://goo.gl/fb/wVW0V)

For the nth time, Philippines’ (already) scarred face gets more blemished. But, as always, there are better days for us.

A perfect song to inspire everyone.
PRAY by Justin Bieber

I sympathize to all those who lost their loved ones and I pray for a fast recovery of those who got injured.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might wonder who Maximo Peligro is. Well, despite the unfortunate incident, some Filipinos still found humor from it... and that would be the bizarre coincidence of the driver's name and the ill-fated event. " "Maximo Peligro" literally means Maximum Danger/Risk.
When people heard about the driver's name, their immediate reaction was so "Grey's Anatomy"...
"SERIOUSLY?"
